JPMorgan Chase & Co has shared plans to construct a new three-million square feet tower in London, marking a significant investment in the city’s financial landscape. The proposed development aims to create a world-class workplace for up to 12,000 employees, enhancing the firm’s capacity and reinforcing London’s status as a global financial hub. The plans remain contingent on a favorable UK business environment and the receipt of necessary national and local approvals.

The new building will serve as JPMorgan Chase’s principal UK headquarters and its largest presence in the EMEA region. It will be located within the Riverside development in Canary Wharf, offering employees and clients uninterrupted views across the River Thames to central London. British architectural firm Foster + Partners, which also designed the firm’s iconic 270 Park Avenue headquarters in New York, is leading the design. Construction is going to span six years.

Canary Wharf Group is acting as co-developer, with independent advice from Sir George Iacobescu. The project includes plans for new public parkland, a redevelopment of the Canary Wharf dock, and improved access to the Riverside area. The tower will feature collaborative workspaces, state-of-the-art trading floors, terraces, roof gardens, wellness facilities, nursing rooms, cafés, restaurants, and ample bicycle parking, designed to support employees’ physical and emotional well-being.

Jamie Dimon, JPMorgan Chase Chairman & CEO, stated, “London has been a trading and financial hub for more than a thousand years, and maintaining it as a vibrant place for finance and business is critical to the health of the UK economy. This building will represent our lasting commitment to the city, the UK, our clients and our people.”

While construction is underway, interim upgrades will be made to the firm’s existing 25 Bank Street building. Currently, JPMorgan Chase operates primarily from 25 Bank Street in Canary Wharf, 60 Victoria Embankment in the City, and leased space at One Cabot Square for its growing International Consumer Bank.

Once the Riverside tower is available, London-based employees will consolidate between the new building and 60 Victoria Embankment, with the firm evaluating the future of 25 Bank Street. This announcement follows another major investment of £350 million (over $450 million) in its Bournemouth campus, signaling JPMorgan Chase’s long-term commitment to the UK.
