IG Securities has announced upcoming changes to the trading of certain exchange-traded funds (ETF) through individual stock accounts. The move is to streamline investment channels and enhance the overall trading experience for its clients.

Starting mid-October 2025, IG Securities will remove eligible ETFs from individual stock accounts. Traders can still manage and settle existing positions via the position list tab, but IG Securities will no longer accept new orders in individual stock accounts.

After this initial adjustment, investors looking to trade these ETFs will need to use Variety accounts—which include instruments like the VIX—and Stock Index accounts. This ensures that trading of ETFs continues through accounts better suited to these products.

The full discontinuation is for the end of November 2025. From that point onward, eligible ETFs will no longer be tradable in individual stock accounts. Any positions that remain open after the settlement cutoff will be automatically closed by IG Securities at the closing price on the final day of November. IG Securities will cancel all pending orders in these ETFs simultaneously.

IG Securities will share a detailed list of affected ETFs and a precise implementation schedule with clients in the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition.

Also, commenting on the update, IG Japan said:

“This change is going to improve the investment environment for our customers. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.”

This adjustment reflects a broader trend in the Japanese brokerage industry, where firms are optimizing account structures and trading channels to better suit the diverse needs of investors. IG Securities encourages clients holding ETFs in individual stock accounts to review their portfolios and transition their positions to the appropriate accounts before the November deadline to avoid any disruption.
