Dukascopy Japan has confirmed unauthorized transactions in some foreign exchange trading accounts following an incident involving unauthorized access to the “Onamae.com Desktop Cloud” service.
The brokerage issued a new notice to clients today, providing an update on the incident it previously reported and outlining measures customers should take to secure their accounts and devices.
Dukascopy Japan confirmed unauthorized transactions in FX trading accounts, including accounts belonging to customers who used the affected desktop cloud service. The broker is working with GMO Internet Group to investigate the situation and implement measures to prevent further damage.
Dukascopy Japan Confirms Unauthorized FX Account Transactions
However, the brokerage has not confirmed any unauthorized third-party access to its own trading system or any information leakage from its systems. The distinction leaves the investigation focused, for now, on the reported cloud service incident and its potential impact on customers.
As part of its response, Dukascopy Japan has changed login passwords for accounts belonging to users of “Onamae.com Desktop Cloud” who have suspicions of experiencing unauthorized logins.
The broker has also urged affected customers to conduct a full virus scan on their devices and back up important data. Customers should log out of Dukascopy Japan’s system on all devices, even after their passwords have been changed. These steps should be using a separate, secure device, such as another computer or smartphone.
Additionally, customers have to check for unfamiliar linked applications, email forwarding settings and browser extensions, disabling or deleting anything suspicious where necessary.
GMO Internet Group has stated that it will not comply with demands from the attackers, explaining that meeting such demands would not guarantee the deletion of acquired information or prevent its misuse.
Customers seeking compensation or assistance regarding damages have to contact GMO Internet Group’s dedicated support line directly at 03-5456-2560, which operates 24 hours a day.
The incident highlights the potential risks associated with third-party remote desktop services used to access trading accounts. While Dukascopy Japan has not confirmed a breach of its own trading infrastructure, the confirmed unauthorized transactions make account security and the ongoing investigation important concerns for affected clients.
